Jie Yao (AS&T) and colleagues research breakthrough is among TIME magazine Top 10 Scientific Discoveries of 2008.

Graduate student Jie Yao and his collaborators in Prof. Xiang Zhang's group have made a breakthrough in Nano-photonics: they created a new type of metamaterial that can bend light in the "wrong" direction. Their discovery is a big step towards making an invisible cloak and has been selected by TIME magazine as one of the top 10 scientific discoveries of 2008 and top 50 best inventions of 2008.
